Livebearing Fishes (Poeciliidae) Goliad Farms, LP, raises both Poeciliidae, which include the guppy, mollies, platies, swordtails and their ilk, and Goodeidae. This section concerns the Poeciliidae. Poeciliidae are New World fish characterized by the males having an anal fin (called a gonopodium) modified for the injection of sperm into the females who are livebearing. Poeciliidae females are often able to store sperm for later use, allowing them to have multiple broods from a single mating.
